How to use it
- 1
Choose the language. Pick the language of the text in your image.
- 2
Add your image. Drop it in, choose a file, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac).
- 3
Copy the text. Check for mistakes, especially numbers, then copy it or save it as a .txt file.
[ADD YOUR OWN TEST HERE: what you tried, screenshots of the result, what worked and what didn't, and the date.]
Tips for better results
- Use a sharp, straight-on photo with good light. Blurry or angled text is the main cause of errors.
- Crop to the part with text before you upload a busy photo.
- Printed text works much better than handwriting.
- Higher resolution helps with small fonts: zoom in before taking a screenshot.
How it works
This tool uses Tesseract, a long-running open-source text recognition engine, compiled to run in your browser. It downloads the language data you choose, then reads the image on your device. Nothing is uploaded, which makes it safe for invoices, IDs and private messages.
Limits
Tesseract is excellent with clean printed text but struggles with handwriting, decorative fonts, text on busy backgrounds and complex tables. Right-to-left languages like Arabic and Urdu work, but check line order in the result.
