What's free
Copilot Free works in VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs and on GitHub.com. You get 2,000 inline code completions a month and a limited allowance for chat, edits and agent mode. In June 2026 GitHub moved from counting "premium requests" to token-based AI Credits; plan prices stayed the same.
What Pro adds
Copilot Pro ($10/month) gives unlimited completions, a monthly AI credit allowance, more models and the cloud coding agent. Verified students, teachers and maintainers of popular open-source projects can get Copilot free.
